3、,1991Summary.Sialodacryoadenitisvirus(SDAV)andParker'sratcoronavirus(PRC)aretworecognizedviralstrainswhichcausespontaneousdiseaseinthelaboratoryrat.Currentlythereisnorecognizedpracticalprocedurewhichwillaccuratelydifferentiateinfectionswiththesestrains
4、.UsingSDAV-andPRC-infectedL-2cellsasthesourceofantigen,andserafromratscollectedpostinoculationwitheitheroftheseviralstrains,theindirectfluorescentantibody(IFA)procedurewasusedtodeterminewhetherantibodytiterscouldbeusedtodifferentiateinfectionsfromtheho
5、mologousandheterologousvirus.Therewasnodetectabledifferenceinthesensitivityorspecificityofthesesystemsindetectingantibodytothehomologousorheterologousvirus.ThustherewasnoevidencethatSDAV-andPRC-infectedcellswouldservetodifferentiateantibodytothehomolog
6、ousvirususingtheIFAtechnique.Inaddition,an-tibodytitersweresimilarwhenmousehepatitisvirus(MHV)-infectedcellswereusedasthesourceofantigenfortheIFAtechnique.However,usingMHVorSDAV-infectedcellsasthesourceofantigen,therewasasignificantdifferenceinantibody
7、titerstothehomologousvirusdetectedusingtheimmunoenzymetechnique.IntroductionTheindirectfluorescenceantibody(IFA)testisarecognized,sensitivemethodtodetectantibodytospecificrodentviruses.Onemethodusedforthedetectionofcoronaviralantibodiesinrodentseracons
8、istsofequalproportionsofcellsinfectedwiththeJHMandSstrainsofmousehepatitisvirus(MHV)asasourceofantigen,togetherwithuninfectedcells.Usingthisasasourceofantigen,theindirectfluorescentantibodyprocedurehasproventobeatestsystemwith176D.H.Per
