3、CLNs)ofratswithdifferentsusceptibilitytocoronavirus-inducedencephalitiswasinvestigated.ThemajorityofCD4+Tlymphocytesenteringthevirus-infectedCNSinthecourseoftheinfectionareprimedcellsthatneitherproliferateexvivonorcanbestimulatedtoproliferationbyviralantigensormitogeninvitro.Incontrast,Tlymphocy

4、testakenfromCLNsofthesameanimalsrevealedastrongproliferativeresponse.RestimulationofCLNlymphocytesbyviralantigensdisclosedastrikingdifferencebetweenthedisease-resistantratstrainBrownNorway(BN)andthesusceptibleLewis(LEW)strain.WhereasBNlymphocytesrespondedasearlyas5dayspostinfection,ittookmoretha

5、n11daysuntilacomparableproliferationwasdetectableinLEWlymphocytes.FromthesedatawepostulatethatthemajorityofTlymphocytesenteringthevirus-infectedbrainaftersensitisationandexpansionincervicallymphnodesisunresponsivetofurtherproliferationsignalsandthatthekineticsandmagnitudeofTlymphocytestimulation
