2、Inthepresentreport,onlythesignsandpathologyscoursinyoungcalves.AlthoughtheroleofBCVinrespi-ratorytractinfectionshasnotbeenclearlydefined,thereisassociatedwiththepneumoentericstrainofBCVarepre-increasingevidencethatitcausesupperrespiratorytractin-sented.Calf2i
3、noculatedwiththevirulentpneumoenteric5,6straindevelopeddiarrheawithin1dayafterinfectionbutfectioninadditiontotheintestinaldisease.Focalinvolve-mentoflungswasrecentlyreportedin2of16calvesexper-didnotdeveloprespiratorysignsuntil21dayspostinfection5(DPI).Therewa
4、saseverelossofbodyweight.ThesequenceimentallyinfectedwithBCV,butthesequenceofeventsincludingclinicalsignshasnotbeenclearlydescribedforofappearanceofclinicalsignsincalves6and7inoculatedpneumotropicBCV.withthevirulentisolateisshowninTable1.Calves4,5,Thepresentr
5、eportdescribesaconsistent,diffuselungin-and8(uninfectedcontrols)didnotdevelopclinicalsigns.Ofvolvementincalvesexperimentallyinfectedwithafieldiso-thecalvesinoculatedwiththeattenuatedvirus,1calf(1)didlateofBCV.Thedetailsoftheexperimentaldesignhavenotdevelopsig
6、nsofillnessandlookednormalthroughout2beendescribed.Briefly,newborn,colostrum-deprived,un-thestudy,buttheothercalf(9)developedpasty,alkalinevaccinatedcalveswereinfectedorallyat5daysofagewithfeceswithexcessmucus.However,thislattercalfremainedeitheravirulentpneu
7、moentericisolateofBCV(Minnesotaalertthroughoutthedurationoftheexperiment.isolate,calves2,6,and7)orwithanattenuatedstrainofOnexaminationbydirectfluorescencemicroscopy,lessBCV(Mebusstrain,calves1and9).Thevirussuspensionthan0.1%ofthenasalcellsfromcalf7werepositi
