3、eidentifiedasmousecoronavirusbydirectimmunofluorescence.Thenudemousecolonywasclosedandallthenudemice(about500)werekilledbythereasonofdiseasecontrol.Atautopsyabout60%ofnudemiceshowednecrotichepatitis.Bythevirusisolationtoseethesourceofcontamination,viruseswereisolatedfromthefecesofapparentlyhealt
4、hymiceofICR,CDFl,DBA/2andC3H,andfromhumancancercelllinestockedinliquidnitrogen.Inexperimentalinfection,theisolatesproducedonlymildhepatitisinICRmicetreatedwithcortisone.Bycross-neutralizationtest,thenudeisolatereactedcloselywiththevirusfromC3Hmicebutnotwiththevirusfromcancercellline.Theisolatesf
5、romnudeandC3Hmiceproducedexperimentallywastingdiseasewithnecrotichepatitisinnudemice.Thesefindingssuggestthatwastingdiseaseinnudemicemightbecausedbylow-virulentmousecoronavirusshedinfecesfromC3Hmiceintroducedbeforetheoutbreakofdisease.IntroductionAthymicandimmunodeficientnudemicehavebeenwidelyus
6、edforimmunologicaswellascancerresearches.ThemutantmicearehighlysusceptibleforcommoninfectiousagentssuchasSendaivirusandmousecoronavirus(murinehepatitisvirus;MHV),sufferingfrom“wastingdisease”characterizedbydepressionandbodyweightloss(1,3,11,16,18-20).PANTELOURIS(15)describedthatwastedanddeadnude
7、micefrequentlyhadmultiplenecrotizedfociintheliver.Fromwastednudemicewithhepatitis,SEBESTENYandHILL(16)isolatedalow-virulentMHV,andmanyauthorsisolatedlow-virulentMHVstrains(1,11,12,13,19).Mousecoronavirushasbeenrecognizedasam
